About

My name is Katie Ackerman. I have recently been accepted by Elim Fellowship to serve as a missionary with Project Amazon in Santarem, Brazil.  As a registered nurse, I’ll be primarily working with the health ministry. I grew up in Peoria, Illinois and was blessed to be raised in a godly, Christian home. My parents taught me the importance of living for Jesus, and at five years of age, I gave my life to Jesus. Later in life, I began to understand the true meaning of being surrendered to Christ, and rededicated my life to the Lord.

When I was 11 years old, I visited Brazil for the first time. It was on this trip that God gave me a vision for lost people and a clear call to mission work. I visited Brazil again in 1996 for seven weeks, working with my aunt who was serving as a missionary. God continued to confirm the calling to missions. In 1999, I attend Elim Bible Institute and earned a certificate in a one year mission training course.

I’ve been involved in my church and other outreach ministries over the years, including teaching Sunday school, discipleship, worship team, Bible studies, vacation Bible school, various mission trips and outreach groups at school. I lived in Ireland for six months in 2003, working with a missionary couple from my Bible college. I helped in children’s’ ministry, worship, secretarial duties as well as developing relationships with the Irish people.

After Ireland, I went back to college and earned a BSN in 2006. I’ve been working as a registered nurse the past two years, getting experience for the mission field. I am so excited to use my skills to show the love of Jesus in a practical way, and to share the good news of Christ to Brazilians!
